about
At just 18 months old, my parents packed me into the car for my first road trip from my home in suburban New Jersey to Pittsburgh, PA and Akron, OH to visit extended family. Growing up, spending my free time somewhere else was all I knew.
At age 12, I boarded my first international flight headed for Wurzburg, Germany where my Dad was stationed at the time. I would spend the next two weeks exploring southern Germany with a few days trips to other countries peppered throughout. Even at 12, I knew this was something amazing. Not to mention, the ice cream was the best I’ve ever had. We had one more opportunity to visit over the Christmas holiday and explore a bit more. Little did I know (or maybe I did) that I had just been set up for a lifetime of adventures.
Over the years, I’ve become the girl that's "always somewhere." My grandmother even nicknamed me "Airplane Ass" after a funny conversation explaining that I was headed on yet another adventure. I am frequently the go-to for travel advice and questions. After years of answering phone calls, texts, and emails, I have finally decided to collect all my tips, tricks, experiences, and stories into one place. Hopefully you can learn something from my experiences (and mistakes).
There’s an incredible quote that says, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” I love this quote. It sums up my biggest reason for traveling. I travel for love. I travel for the love of other people, for the love of other cultures, and for the love of myself. It’s a powerful opportunity that I wish more people took advantage of. I think the world would be so much more peaceful and tolerant if they did.
May you fall in love with the world like I have one person, place, bite, and experience at a time.
